The Backstory
I first ran into, and became aware of Joe Sorge (@ajbombers) at the May 2010 unGeeked Elite Retreat in Milwaukee during his presentation on Restaurant 1.0 to Restaurant 2.0. During this presentation he made a statement about having to tell a customer “I’m sorry, but we can’t make your Scooby Snack Burger.” Back in the day, I of course was a huge Scooby Doo fan who did a reasonable impression of Shaggy, (eating, not talking). I mean I ate everything all the time just like Shaggy. In fact, during one exchange with Joe via Twitter I mentioned the Scooby Snack and he was surprised I remembered he had used it in his presentation.
Hearing Joe mention the Scooby Snack in his presentation brought those memories back, and having had one of Joe’s awesome AJ Bombers burgers, I decided I had to attempt to recreate the Scooby Snack AJ Bombers style, but I also had to take it one step further. I was going to offer Joe (and burgerwhisperer.com) a challenge I hoped they wouldn’t refuse!
So, what’s the challenge? Well, the nuts and bolts of it are this:
- I will be challenging Joe and AJ Bombers to build the Scooby Snack Burger
- To promote and hold the “Scooby Snack Challenge” through their social media channels
- Pick a weekend on which to hold the “Scooby Snack Challenge” (like late August or mid September)
- A portion of all proceeds from the sale of Scooby Snack Burgers for the Scooby Snack Challenge are donated to the Milwaukee Humane Society
- Successful completion of the Scooby Snack Challenge also counts as your entry into the AJ Bombers Quad Club.
The Fine Print
This challenge should be open to all comers, as well as previous quad club members. To make it a challenge, add a 30 minute time limit from the time your burger arrives at your table in which you have to eat your Scooby Snack. The person with the fastest completion time wins an AJ Bombers prize (Hoody, T-Shirt, Free Bomber food, or something of Joe’s choosing). To make it open to everyone, there should be a vegetarian option where they substitute veggie or black bean burgers for the normal, scrumptious, juicy, super delicious burger patties but the “fixins” are the same and so is the timeframe!
What’s On The Scooby Snack Burger
I’m glad you asked! I don’t have a picture of the Scooby Snack burger but I am sure someone can draw one and share. So here’s how the burger stacks up:
- Toasated Top Bun
- Peanut Butter (spread onto top bun)
- 3-4 Dill Pickle Chips
- Pepper Jim Cheese
- Burger Pattie #1
- Onion Slice (Raw or Cooked)
- Tomato Slice
- Lettuce
- American Cheese
- Burger Pattie #2
- Handful of GI-Normous Fries
- Fried Egg
- Ketchup
- Burger Pattie #3
- 3-4 Jalepeno slices
- Mushrooms
- Merkt’s Swiss Almond Cheese
- Burger Pattie #4
- 2 shakes of Hot Sauce
- Mustard
- Toasted Bottom Bun
Now given this is a monster burger you need something to keep all the pieces together, a skewer if you will and I suggest a knife. I also suggest tucking a napkin into your shirt and something to help was that down like a nice cold Sprecher’s Root Beer.
So there it is, the Scooby Snack Burger. My four favorite AJ Bombers burgers all rolled up into one huge sandwich worthy of the name Scooby Snack! So what do you say gang? Care to step out of your Mystery Machines and take on the Scooby Snack Challenge? Will you be the first to holler “Ruh Roh Raggy!” in defeat or “Rooby Dooby Doo!” as you conquer this mammoth snack?
